Properties are an important part of character development within GTARP:Network.
Properties provide housing, businesses, storage, roleplay locations, meeting places, and long-term character progression.
The purpose of these regulations is to ensure properties are used fairly, realistically, and in a way that promotes roleplay.
1. General Principles
Properties exist to create roleplay.
They should not be treated solely as:
- Storage containers.
- Safe zones.
- Money generators.
- Places to avoid roleplay.
Property ownership comes with responsibilities.
Players are expected to use their properties realistically and in a way that contributes to the roleplay environment.
2. Property Ownership
Property owners are responsible for:
- Maintaining their property.
- Managing access.
- Managing tenants.
- Following server rules.
- Using the property appropriately.
Property ownership does not exempt a player from roleplay consequences.
3. Property Access
Property owners may control who has access to their property.
Examples:
- Friends.
- Family members.
- Roommates.
- Employees.
- Faction members.
- Tenants.
Players should only grant access to individuals their character trusts or has a reason to trust.
4. Tenants & Shared Access
Property owners are responsible for individuals they grant access to.
Disputes regarding:
- Ownership.
- Storage access.
- Furniture placement.
- Tenant removal.
should generally be resolved through roleplay whenever possible.
Staff will not normally intervene in ordinary roommate or tenant disputes.
5. Property Storage
Property storage should be used realistically.
Players may not use properties to:
- Hide exploit items.
- Store bugged items.
- Duplicate assets.
- Abuse storage systems.
Storage exists for roleplay purposes.
Abuse may result in asset removal or administrative action.
6. Property Security
Players are expected to roleplay property security realistically.
Examples:
- Locking doors.
- Restricting access.
- Using security systems appropriately.
- Using cameras realistically.
Property owners should not assume perfect security.
If another character gains access through valid roleplay, consequences may follow.
7. Security Cameras
Security cameras are roleplay tools.
Cameras should be placed realistically.
Not allowed:
- Using cameras to see through walls.
- Using cameras in unrealistic locations.
- Using cameras to obtain impossible information.
- Claiming cameras recorded things they could not reasonably record.
Camera information must be used realistically.
8. Property Break-Ins
Breaking into a property must be roleplayed.
Players may not simply claim entry without appropriate roleplay or mechanics.
Any break-in should have:
- A valid roleplay reason.
- Proper roleplay.
- Reasonable consequences.
Breaking into properties solely to grief or harass players is prohibited.
9. Property Raids
Law enforcement raids must follow law enforcement roleplay procedures.
Raiding a property should have appropriate IC justification.
Examples:
- Warrants.
- Investigations.
- Probable cause.
- Emergency situations.
Raids should create roleplay rather than bypass it.
10. Safe Zone Mentality
Properties are not safe zones.
Players may not assume:
- They are immune from consequences.
- They are immune from investigations.
- They are immune from roleplay.
- They can hide indefinitely.
Owning a property does not protect a character from legitimate roleplay.
11. Furnishing Rules
Furniture should be placed realistically.
Not allowed:
- Blocking all entrances.
- Blocking exits.
- Creating impossible structures.
- Intentionally trapping players.
- Using furniture to exploit mechanics.
Furniture exists to improve roleplay, not create advantages.
12. Exterior Furniture
Exterior furnishing should remain within designated property boundaries.
Players may not:
- Block roads.
- Block public pathways.
- Create obstructions for other players.
- Create unrealistic structures in public areas.
Staff may remove inappropriate furnishings.
13. Property Businesses
Properties may be used for businesses when permitted.
Business properties should:
- Create roleplay.
- Serve customers.
- Support interaction.
- Operate realistically.
Properties should not be used solely as passive income generators.
14. Property Abuse
Property abuse includes:
- Avoiding active roleplay through interiors.
- Abusing locks.
- Using interiors to escape consequences unrealistically.
- Exploiting property systems.
- Using properties to grief players.
Property systems should support roleplay rather than replace it.
15. Inactivity
Properties may be subject to inactivity policies.
Long periods of inactivity may result in:
- Property repossession.
- Property cleanup.
- Asset recovery procedures.
Specific inactivity periods may be announced separately.
16. Administrative Intervention
Staff generally prefer property disputes to be resolved through roleplay.
However, intervention may occur when:
- Rules are broken.
- Systems are abused.
- Exploits are involved.
- A technical issue exists.
- A serious dispute cannot be resolved otherwise.
17. Final Notes
Properties should enhance roleplay, not replace it.
Players are encouraged to use properties to create:
- Stories.
- Businesses.
- Organizations.
- Meeting places.
- Character development.
- Community interaction.
Remember:
- Properties are not safe zones.
- Use storage responsibly.
- Furnish realistically.
- Roleplay security properly.
- Create opportunities for roleplay.
- Use common sense.
